Last week was the Boston Comic-Con, the only superhero-obsessed convention I’ve attended. Which means Lots of fun times, Lots of Hunger Games cosplay, Lots of CatWomen, and lots of SPANDEX!
I tabled with my friends and talented cartoonists Holly Foltz and Matt Aucoin, two of the funniest folks I’ve met. The night before the convention (in a haze of in-jokes, jam comics, and absurdity) we pulled together a new 16-page anthology called School Pencil! Fun stuff in there, including some diary comics by me.
The three of us were lucky enough to get chatted about on Bleeding Cool, and I scored an interview over at Boston’s Weekly Dig! It’s a fun, silly interview mainly talking about Pizza Boy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:
If you could ask Kevin Eastman one question, what would it be?
I would ask why he gave the Ninja Turtles a tail that looks like a penis or a little piece of poop.
My friend and cartoonist-wunder-dude Jesse Lonergan wrote a great blogpost about the convention. He also said very nice things about Animal Sense, too:
Animal Sense by Jose Luis Olivares is pure genius. I actually was at his apartment while he was making this cut paper accordion fold comic, and I have to admit that I watched him doing it and really saw just random patterns. But THEN, seeing the finished comic all folded and cut appropriately my mind was blown. The whole thing just came together beautifully. It was like when you’re at the eye doctor and they’re are doing that thing with the lens gizmo and they keep saying “Number one or number two?” and every single lens is super blurry and you can’t see anything and then suddenly, “Number one or number two?” and you’re like, “OH MY GOD! NUMBER TWO!” If that makes any sense.
So nice, sheesh!
